Taxonomy
Ihlengesi saldanhae was named by Bianucci et al. (2007). Its type specimen is SAM PQ 2792, a partial skull (partial skull including the rostrum base, anterior part of the cranium, and the vertex), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Saldanha Bay, which is in a Miocene/Pliocene marine phosphorite in South Africa. It is the type species of Ihlengesi.
