Archaeschrichtius ruggieroi
Taxonomy
Archaeschrichtius ruggieroi was named by Bisconti and Varola (2006). Its type specimen is MAUL 230/1, a mandible (left dentary lacking condyle and angular process), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Cisterna Quarry, which is in a Tortonian transition zone/lower shoreface lime mudstone in the Pietra Leccese Formation of Italy.
