Callistotapes was named by Sacco (1900) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 899]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Tapes (Callistotapes) by Vredenburg (1928), Freneix et al. (1988) and Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); it was reranked as Pitar (Callistotapes) by Marasti (1973); it was reranked as Paphia (Callistotapes) by Mandic et al. (2002).

It was assigned to Pitar by Marasti (1973); to Tapes by Vredenburg (1928), Freneix et al. (1988) and Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Paphia by Mandic et al. (2002).
