Taxonomy
Shansirhinus ringstromi was named by Kretzoi (1942). Its type specimen is University of Uppsala M 536, a maxilla (maxillary with complete cheek tooth rows), and it is not a trace fossil.

Synonyms
  • Chilotherium yunnanensis was named by Tang et al. (1974). Its type specimen is IVPP V 4316, a maxilla (incomplete right maxillary with P2-M1), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Shagou Formation, Banguo Basin, Yuanmou District, Yunnan, which is in the Pliocene of horizon the Shagou Formation China.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Shansirhinus ringstromi by Deng (2005).
  • Chilotherium cornutum was named by Qiu and Yan (1982). It is not a trace fossil.

    It was recombined as Acerorhinus cornutus by Qiu et al. (1987); it was synonymized subjectively with Shansirhinus ringstromi by Deng (2005).
  • Chilotherium tianzhuense was named by Zheng (1982). Its type specimen is IVPP V 6416, a maxilla (incomplete maxillary with P2-M2), and it is not a trace fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Shansirhinus ringstromi by Deng (2005).
