Taxonomy
Asterites scutellatus was named by Blumenbach (1803). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Aspidura scutellata by Agassiz (1835), Eck (1865), Eck (1879), Fraas (1888), Picard (1889), Schmidt (1928), Assmann (1937), Kutscher (1940), Heller (1959), Hess (1965), Müller (1976) and Calzada and Gutiérrez (1988); it was synonymized subjectively with Aspidura (Hemiglypha) loricata by Pohlig (1878); it was recombined as Aspiduriella scutellata by Bolette (1998) and Radwanski (2002).
