Taxonomy
Byzantinia nikosi was named by de Bruijn (1976). Its type specimen is IVAU BI 170, a tooth (M3 sup. dext.), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Biodrak, which is in a Vallesian lacustrine lignite in Greece.

H. de Bruijn 1976A Byzantinia species of medium size with low-crowned cheek teeth. Ectolophs of M1, M2 and M3 complete. The metacone of M1, M2, and M3 not completely incorporated in the posteroloph. The M3 is not elongated posteriorly. The M3 has a complete ectoloph and a shallow narrow sinus.
