Taxonomy
Cricetodon breve was named by Schaub (1925). Its type specimen is NMB GA 83, a mandible (with m1-m3), and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Democricetodon minor brevis by Fahlbusch (1964); it was recombined as Democricetodon brevis by Mein and Freudenthal (1971).
