Taxonomy
Strophalosia preovalis was named by Maxwell (1954). Its type specimen is UQ F15622, a shell (ventral valve), and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Wyndhamia preovalis by McCarthy et al. (1974); it was recombined as Echinalosia preovalis by Waterhouse (1983), Briggs (1998).

W.G.H. Maxwell 1954Shell small, dorsal valve geniculate, trail of medium length. Shell outline subcircular. Cardinal area a t a low angle to the plane of the shell. Dorsal spines sparse. Ventral adductor platform short and low; teeth and dental callosities small, posterior wall low. Median septum long and high.
