Djebelemur was named by Hartenberger and Marandat (1992). Its type is Djebelemur martinezi.

It was assigned to Cercamoniinae by Gunnell and Miller (2001); to Adapidae by Hartenberger et al. (2001); to Strepsirrhini by Seiffert et al. (2005); and to Djebelemuridae by Marivaux et al. (2013).
