Venus munsterii was named by d'Orbigny (1842) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; Argentina.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Cardium munsterii by d'Orbigny (1852); it was recombined as Chione muensteri by Ihering (1907); it was recombined as Chione munsteri by Wahnish (1939); it was recombined as Chionopsis munsteri by de Rio (2000); it was misspelled as Venus muensteri by Ihering (1897); it was recombined as Chionopsis munsterii by Griffin and Nielsen (2008).
