Taxonomy

Leonaspis was named by Richter and Richter (1917). Its type is Odontopleura leonhardi.

It was reranked as Ceratocephala (Leonaspis) by Richter and Richter (1926).

It was assigned to Ceratocephala by Richter and Richter (1926); to Odontopleurinae by Bruton (1966), Bruton (1967), Ramsköld and Chatterton (1991); to Odontopleurida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Odontopleuridae by Whittington (1956), Jell and Adrain (2002).

Acanthaloma was named by Conrad (1840).

It was considered a nomen oblitum by Whittington (1956); it was misspelled as Acantaloma by Sepkoski (2002); it was synonymized subjectively with Leonaspis by Jell and Adrain (2002).

It was assigned to Odontopleurida by Sepkoski (2002).
