Taxonomy
Mesoplodon (Cetorhynchus) christolii was named by Gervais (1861). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Poussan, which is in a Miocene marine horizon in France. It is the type species of Mesoplodon (Cetorhynchus).
It was recombined as Cetorhynchus christolii by Van Beneden and Gervais (1880); it was recombined as Cyrtodelphis christolii by Abel (1900); it was misspelled as Cyrtodelphis christoli by Trouessart (1904); it was recombined as Cetorhynchus christoli by Kellogg (1922).
