Taxonomy
Gastrochaena couvana was named by Vokes (1938). Its type specimen is Amer. Mus. No. 24990, a valve (left valve), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Springvale (AMNH collection), which is in a Miocene coastal sandstone in Trinidad and Tobago.
