Kyitchaungia takaii was named by Beard et al. (2007) [Width of holotype lower molar is a minimum estimate due to poor preservation.]. Its type specimen is NMMP 28, a tooth (right m2), and it is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Kyitchaungia.
