Sivaladapidae was named by Thomas and Verma (1979). It was considered monophyletic by Qi and Beard (1998).
It was reranked as the family Sivaladapidae by Qi and Beard (1998), Gunnell and Miller (2001), Chaimanee et al. (2008), Gilbert et al. (2017) and Chavasseau et al. (2019).
