Taxonomy
Antilope gnou was named by Zimmermann (1780) [Bos gnu Zimmermann 1777 is unavailable: ICZN Opinion 257]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Antilope (Connochaetes) gnou by Lichtenstein (1812); it was recombined as Connochaetes gnou by Geraads et al. (2004), Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008), Gentry (2010).
