Dysderidae was named by Koch (1837). It is extant. Its type is Dysdera.

It was assigned to Tubitelariae by Scudder (1890); to Haplogynae by Petrunkevitch (1922); and to Dysderoidea by Dunlop et al. (2013), Wheeler et al. (2017).
