Segestria was named by Latreille (1804). It is extant. It is the type genus of Segestriidae.
It was assigned to Dysderidae by Scudder (1890) and Petrunkevitch (1922); and to Segestriidae by Dunlop et al. (2013), Selden (2014) and Wheeler et al. (2017).
