Taxonomy

Segestria was named by Latreille (1804). It is extant. It is the type genus of Segestriidae.

It was assigned to Dysderidae by Scudder (1890) and Petrunkevitch (1922); and to Segestriidae by Dunlop et al. (2013), Selden (2014) and Wheeler et al. (2017).

Synonyms

Segestria elongata was named by Koch and Berendt (1854). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Berendt collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Poland.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Dunlop et al. (2013).
