Taxonomy

Hemerobius was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant. It is the type genus of Hemerobiinae, Hemerobini.

It was assigned to Insecta by Geoffroy (1762); to Gymnoptera by Schaeffer (1766); to Neuroptera by Linnaeus (1758), Linnaeus (1761), Scopoli (1763), Müller (1764), Linnaeus (1767), Drury (1770), Müller (1776), Latreille (1796); to Synistata by Fabricius (1775), Fabricius (1798); to Hemerobini by Latreille (1802); to Hemerobiidae by Jarzembowski (1980), Carpenter (1992); and to Hemerobiinae by Oswald (1993), Garzón-Orduña et al. (2016).

Macropalpus was named by Pictet (1854).

It was synonymized subjectively with Hemerobius by Hagen (1856), Makarkin et al. (2019).
