Paraberotha was named by Whalley (1980). Its type is Paraberotha acra. It is the type genus of Paraberothinae.
It was assigned to Berothidae by Whalley (1980), Carpenter (1992); and to Paraberothinae by Nel et al. (2005), Makarkin and Kupryjanowicz (2010), Petrulevičius et al. (2010), Makarkin (2015), Nakamine et al. (2020).
