Epigambria was named by Handlirsch (1939). Its type is Epigambria longipennis. It is the type genus of Epigambriidae.
It was considered a nomen dubium by Makarkin and Archibald (2003).
It was assigned to Nymphitidae by Martynova (1949); to Planipennia by Carpenter (1992); to Epigambriidae by Handlirsch (1939), Engel and Grimaldi (2008); and to Epigambriinae by Makarkin et al. (2021).
