Dischistus was named by Loew (1855). It is extant. It is the type genus of Dischistini.
It was assigned to Bombyliidae by Carpenter (1992); to Bombyliini by Evenhuis and Greathead (1999); and to Dischistini by Li and Yeates (2019).
