Cretoplatypalpus was named by Kovalev (1978). It is not extant. Its type is Cretoplatypalpus archaeus.
It was assigned to Tachydromiini by Kovalev (1978); to Empididae by Carpenter (1992); and to Tachydromiinae by Grimaldi and Cumming (1999), Badano et al. (2023), Solórzano-Kraemer et al. (2023).
