Taxonomy
Xanthochlorus was named by Loew (1857). It is extant. It is the type genus of Xanthochlorinae.

It was assigned to Campsicneminae by Statz (1940); to Dolichopodidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Xanthochlorinae by Aldrich (1905), Sabrosky (1999).
