Taxonomy

Cheilosia was named by Meigen (1822). It is extant. It is the type genus of Cheilosinae, Cheilosiina.

It was assigned to Syrphinae by Statz (1940); to Cheilosinae by Hull (1945); to Cheilosini by Hull (1949); to Syrphidae by Scudder (1878), Cockerell (1909), Carpenter (1992); and to Cheilosiina by Mengual et al. (2015).
