Taxonomy
Chrysogaster was named by Meigen (1803). It is extant. It is the type genus of Chrysogasterini.
It was assigned to Cheilosinae by Hull (1945); to Chrysogastrini by Hull (1949); to Syrphidae by Carpenter (1992), Evenhuis (1994); and to Brachyopina by Mengual et al. (2015).
