Taxonomy
Leptotarsus was named by Guerin-Meneville (1831). It is extant. Its type is Leptotarsus macquarti.
It was assigned to Tipulidae by Evenhuis (1994), Ribeiro and Lukashevich (2014), Krzemiński (2019); and to Tipulinae by Shih et al. (2015), Krzemiński et al. (2017), Men and Hu (2021), Azar and Nel (2023).
