Taxonomy
Sakmarites was named by Ruzhencev (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse P Leon]. It is not extant. Its type is Goniatites postcarbonarius.

It was assigned to Pronoritidae by Leonova (2002); to Prolecanitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Neopronoritinae by Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009), Leonova (2023).
