Aframonius was named by Simons et al. (1995). It is not extant. Its type is Aframonius dieides.
It was assigned to Cercamoniinae by Simons et al. (1995), Simons and Miller (1997); and to Caenopithecinae by Godinot (1998), Seiffert et al. (2009).
