Taxonomy
Algeripithecus minutus was named by Godinot and Mahboubi (1992). Its type specimen is Oran University GZC 1, a tooth (left upper molar M2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Gour Lazib HGL10, which is in a Ypresian/Lutetian fluvial-lacustrine sandstone in the Glib Zegdou Formation of Algeria. It is the type species of Algeripithecus.
