Crouzeliinae was named by Ginsburg and Mein (1980). It is not extant.

It was reranked as the tribe Crouzeliini by Harrison and Gu (1999).

It was assigned to Pliopithecinae by Harrison and Gu (1999); to Crouzeliidae by Begun (2002); and to Pliopithecidae by Harrison et al. (1991), Moyà‐Solà et al. (2001), Alba and Moyà-Solà (2012).
