Simonsius grangeri
Taxonomy
Parapithecus grangeri was named by Simons (1974). Its type specimen is CGM 26912, a mandible (left mandible with P2-M3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry I (Jebel Qatrani Formation), which is in a Rupelian fluvial sandstone/mudstone in the Jebel Qatrani Formation of Egypt. It is the type species of Simonsius.
It was recombined as Simonsius grangeri by Gingerich (1978), Beard et al. (2016), Mattingly et al. (2021).
