Taxonomy
Otaria fischeri was named by Gervais and Ameghino (1880). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Barrancas del Rio Parana, which is in a Tortonian marginal marine siltstone/sandstone in the Entre Rios Formation of Argentina.
It was recombined as Arctophoca fischeri by Ameghino (1886), Ameghino (1889); it was recombined as Arctocephalus (Arctocephalus) fischeri by Trouessart (1898), Trouessart (1904); it was considered a nomen nudum by True (1909); it was recombined as Arctocephalus fischeri by Kellogg (1922).
It was recombined as Arctophoca fischeri by Ameghino (1886), Ameghino (1889); it was recombined as Arctocephalus (Arctocephalus) fischeri by Trouessart (1898), Trouessart (1904); it was considered a nomen nudum by True (1909); it was recombined as Arctocephalus fischeri by Kellogg (1922).
