Taxonomy
Cavia cabrerai was named by Candela and Bonini (2017). Its type specimen is MCH-P 170, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is San Fernando Norte, which is in a Zanclean terrestrial sandstone/conglomerate in the Andahuala Formation of Argentina.
