Taxonomy
Preverastraea coatlicuae was named by Filkorn and Pantoja-Alor (2009). Its type locality is Chumbitaro, MP 13, coral reef, which is in an Albian/Cenomanian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Mal Paso Formation of Mexico.
