Hypoperla was named by Martynov (1928). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Hypoperlidae.

It was assigned to Neoptera by Carpenter (1992); and to Hypoperlidae by Martynov (1928), Shcherbakov (1994), Novokshonov (1998), Prokop et al. (2017).
