Permocupes was named by Martynov (1932). It is not extant. Its type is Permocupes semenovi. It is the type genus of Permocupedidae, Permocupedinae.

It was assigned to Permocupedidae by Martynov (1932), Ponomarenko (1963), Carpenter (1992); and to Permocupedinae by Kirejtshuk (2020).
