Taxonomy

Pseudohydrophilus was named by Deichmüller (1886). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Hydrophilidae by Deichmüller (1886); to Adephaga by Ponomarenko (1971); to Coptoclavidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Necronectinae by Ponomarenko (1977), Soriano et al. (2007).

Synonyms

Prodytiscus was named by Oppenheim (1888).

It was synonymized subjectively with Pseudohydrophilus by Ponomarenko (1977).
Palaeobelostoma was named by Meunier (1896). Its type is Palaeobelostoma hartingi.

It was synonymized subjectively with Pseudohydrophilus by Handlirsch (1906).
