Clidicus was named by Laporte (1832). It is extant. It is the type genus of Clidicini.
It was assigned to Scydmaenidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Clidicini by Newton and Franz (1998), Bouchard et al. (2011), Kirejtshuk et al. (2015) and Jałoszyński et al. (2018).
