Taxonomy
Basterotia (Basterotia) ambona was named by Vokes (1981). Its type specimen is USNM 298649, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TU 555 - Fourmile Creek [Chipola Fm], which is in a Burdigalian marine marl/sandstone in the Chipola Formation of Florida.
