Gastrochaena (Spengleria) emilyana was named by Vokes (1976). Its type specimen is USNM 647648, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TU 830 - Tenmile Creek, which is in a Burdigalian marine marl/sandstone in the Chipola Formation of Florida.
