Taxonomy
Tyrrhenolutra helbingi was named by Hurzeler (1987). Its type specimen is Naturhistorisches Museum Basel Bac. 51, a maxilla, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Baccinello V1, which is in a Turolian terrestrial coal in Italy.
