Deceptrix was named by Fuchs (1919) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi-l D Emsi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 91,1066].

It was assigned to Praenuculidae by Cox et al. (1969), Harrison and Harrison (1975), Vokes (1980); to Cardiolariidae by Cope (1997); and to Nuculoida by Sepkoski (2002).
