Taxonomy
Chione sechuntana was named by Hanna and Israelsky (1925). Its type specimen is CAS 1724, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 339, Boca Pan [Zorritos Fm], which is in a Miocene marine horizon in the Zorritos Formation of Peru.
It was recombined as Chione (Chionopsis) sechuntana by Woodring (1982).
