Taxonomy
Macropus (Petrogale) robustus was named by Gould (1841). It is extant.

It was recombined as Macropus (Osphranter) robustus by Dawson and Flannery (1985); it was recombined as Macropus robustus by Phillips et al. (2001).

Synonyms
  • Macropus birdsellii was named by Tedford (1967). Its type specimen is SAM P13857, a mandible (mandibular ramus with a broken incisor and worn molars), and it is a 3D body fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Macropus (Osphranter) robustus by Dawson and Flannery (1985).
  • Osphranter cooperi was named by Owen (1874). Its type specimen is BM 32886, a mandible (crushed mandibular fragment with damaged molars), and it is a 3D body fossil.

    It was recombined as Macropus cooperi by Lydekker (1894); it was synonymized subjectively with Macropus (Osphranter) robustus by Dawson and Flannery (1985).
