Taxonomy
Macrocallista cavachana was named by Hanna and Israelsky (1925). Its type specimen is CAS 1723, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 555, Payta, which is in an Eocene marine horizon in Peru.
