Taxonomy
Macrocallista cavachana was named by Hanna and Israelsky (1925). Its type specimen is CAS 1723, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 555, Payta, which is in an Eocene marine horizon in Peru.

Israelsky 1925Shell small, ovate, very inequilateral ; beak situated about one-fourth the distance from the anterior end, incurved and prosogyrous; dorsal slopes steep, basal margin broadly rounded ; lunule flat, not deeply circumscribed ; escutcheon not well defined; sculpture consisting of fine, concentric striae only; hinge plate narrow, not well preserved in type.
