Taxonomy
Praeacanthocircus spinosus was named by Kozur and Mostler (1990). Its type locality is Tingo, Cerro Negro, sample 5484, which is in a Hettangian/Sinemurian deep-water siltstone/limestone in the Aramachay Formation of Peru.

It was recombined as Pseudosaturniforma spinosa by Danelian (2010).
