Plesiorycteropus germainepetterae was named by MacPhee (1994). Its type specimen is MNHNP 327 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ampasambazimba, which is in a Pleistocene/Holocene mire/swamp horizon in Madagascar.
