Euchondria was named by Meek (1874) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-u P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 524].

It was reranked as Aviculopecten (Euchondria) by Reed (1944).

It was assigned to Aviculopecten by Reed (1944); to Euchondriinae by Vokes (1980); to Pectinacea by Amler (1992); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Euchondriidae by Campbell and Engel (1963), Newell and Boyd (1995) and Bouchet et al. (2010).
