Ceruchites was named by Statz (1952). It is not extant. Its type is Ceruchites hahnei. It is the type genus of Ceruchitinae.
It was assigned to Lucanidae by Statz (1952), Carpenter (1992) and Krell (2000); and to Ceruchitinae by Nikolajev (2006) and Bouchard et al. (2011).
